Pedal power raises £000s for charity

Fletch and GB may not be names that immediately spring to mind in the context of great British cycling achievements… However, while they didn’t appear on the medal board at the Rio Olympics, they also deserve special mention.

On Monday 29th August 2016, the team completed a charity bike ride from London to Amsterdam in aid of Children with Cancer UK and Hospitality Action (HA).

Fletch and GB are, in fact, Bev and Simon Greatbatch – the Directors of Letterbox Distribution. They rode along with more than 20 cyclists from Gold Key Media and the wider publishing industry as part of the GKM Pedal to Amsterdam cycling challenge.

Over the four days of the recent August Bank Holiday weekend, the team’s magnificent effort included:

• Covering a distance of 310 miles.
• 22½ hours’ worth of cycling.
• Averaging 13.7 mph.
• Top speeds of up to 30 mph.
• Conquering a series of ascents totalling more than 8160 feet.

The team about to set off from Cutty Sark Greenwich!

And their great efforts have already surpassed the initial target for the deserving charities.

Simon said: “It was a fantastic experience raising awareness and over £23,000 for charities Children with Cancer UK and Hospitality Action.

“We’re very grateful to everyone who has donated so far and would highly recommend others take part in similar events if they can.”

Fighting against childhood cancer

It is still possible to donate via the official fundraising page to further boost the funds for Hospitality Action and Children with Cancer UK. All donations – big or small – can make a world of difference.

HA is the hospitality industry’s charity helping past and present workers of all ages who are in crisis. It offers financial aid and information and also supports a youth guidance scheme educating on alcohol and drugs misuse.

Children with Cancer UK is the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer. Almost 4000 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK. The charity aims are to determine the causes, find cures and provide care for children.

Fletch and GB, alongside Wingman, made their great contribution. The team also included Horny, Max, Mustang, The Machine and Banger, to name but a few!
